
Tomsk medical volunteers: 100 events, 25 thousand people, 12 thousand hours of help
In the Tomsk region, medical volunteers have been involved in medical volunteering for two years. During this time, the movement held more than 100 events, reaching an audience of about 25 thousand people, provided more than 12 thousand hours of assistance to medical personnel in 5 medical institutions of the Tomsk region.
Over the past 2018, the project volunteers provided 4,790.5 hours of volunteer assistance in Tomsk hospitals and clinics. 335 medical volunteers help 5 medical institutions: clinics of SSMU (Faculty, Hospital, Call Center), EDO, 1 children’s hospital, 1 MSCH, Children’s home.
Volunteers regularly carry out a program of vocational guidance for schoolchildren in medicine. So, after passing specialized training, students get the opportunity to volunteer at events. In addition, school volunteer medical teams are being created, whose activists are working in their schools to promote healthy lifestyles and to increase the literacy of schoolchildren in the field of health care. By 2018, there are already 11 such teams. 7 general education institutions are involved in the career guidance program, more than 1,200 schoolchildren, 55 of them are active in the school teams of a healthy lifestyle.
One of the main areas of work of Tomsk medical volunteers is the formation of people’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle. To implement it, all-Russian and inter-regional actions, master classes, trainings, lectures, debates, brain-rings, visual experiments are organized. At the end of 2018, more than 7,000 people were covered, 1,000 of them were vaccinated as part of the regional mobile vaccination campaign “Protect yourself from the flu”, 4,000 – as part of the Stroke Week.
Also, volunteers provide active assistance in medical accompaniment of sports and mass events. Master classes are taught on first aid skills, work is underway to create and implement a single standard of first aid training for medical volunteers, instructor volunteers, and the public. In 2018, medical volunteers helped to organize such events as the Russian Sambo Championship among students, the Yarche Marathon, the Military-patriotic game Sturm, the Health Marathon, and others.
